Away sounds of distant thunder
sparks prayer for cool weather
for a moment humidity flees
silence is broken by rustling trees
sounds of night competing
as distant thunder abates the heat
coming dawn gazes upon the scene
coming unforgiving Sun-
not caring a hoot…
Sitting in my chair, the crack of distant thunder inspired this piece. I hope it does justice to this week’s Quadrille prompt on dVerse – Quadrille #219 – A Poetic Hootenanny
Join in and “give a hoot about the rules and write a poem of exactly 44 words (not counting the title), including some semblance of the word hoot…“
Cheers! 🙂

You painted a very visual scene, with strong vibes, and a nice undertow, or second layer….”all things must pass”

I love night thunder. Hoping it brings rain and respite from the heat soon.

And just like that, it dissipated without even a tap of rain on my roof. I’m guessing it rained elsewhere 🙂

I enjoy thunderstorms; we used to get lots when I was a child, but not so many these days. I love the way distant thunder haunts your quadrille.

I can really relate to this quadrille. It has been stinking hot here in Victoria and I will take your cooling poem as pleasant relief thank you.

“for a moment humidity flees” This so reminds me of the years I spent in south Florida! Beautiful piece.

Beautiful. We sure could use that crack of thunder and the resounding rain here in Southern Nevada.

hahaha! The heat wave here in Lagos is making the news! We are holding our breaths for April showers. That’s about the time the weather turns⛈️☔🌧️

I love the scenery and though so rare in our exotic north I still remember the nightly thunder….

Nice job with the contrast between thunder and the heat! The “hoot” fits perfectly into the mood. 🌩️
