I’m reblogging this piece in order to remind us to appreciate the lives we lead, and here’s a simple haiku to go with it:
Not a beggar girl|
Not a woman of the streets|
Blessed beyond measure.…Cheers!
Different lives, different locations;
But sharing that same condition… A beggar girl’s destiny.
Born into penury, her pockets she fills with her plea
“Oga gimme change na!
Madam help ya daughta!
Daddy I beg hep me!
Mommy gimme wata!”
As a child her innocence is her might,
Her youthful smile and laughter her charm,
With pure resilience she disarms her passerby,
Attaching herself to her prospective financier
this small frame with teary eyes lets out her angelic cry
“Oga gimme change na!
Madam help ya daughta!
Daddy I beg hep me!
Mommy gimme wata!”
She grows older; begging her career
but the older she gets, the less her financiers
Her innocence is lost with age, a woman is on the rise,
Not many pity a wondering girl in her teens as she gives off her daily cry
“Oga gimme change na!
Madam help ya daughta!
Daddy I beg hep me!

Staring into the nothingness before
Inspiration flat, no thoughts of lore
ALAS! EUREKA! a spark of grandeur!and then I write:
To give ones love and yet be kept in thirst
Many are the souls blessed with such a curse
Yet to live and not have loved is much worse
Today on dVerse (http://dversepoets.com/2012/10/11/formforall-englyn/) we are taking a look at the Englyn (plural Englynion). This is an ancient form of Celtic poetry.
Traditionally the Englyn was used to praise or mock someone well-known. Because of their brevity, they can distil ideas or emotion in a concise verse.
There are eight different forms of Englyn. I have chosen the Englyn milwr
Englyn milwr
This is the soldier’s Englyn, which consists of three seven syllable lines, all of which rhyme.

Thanks Sue Judd! I hope my poem did some justice to today’s topic 🙂

She's growing older Her children growing colder Where did she go wrong?!
This Haiku was inspired by the recent killing of three University students in my country. According to the Nigerian Guardian (Outrage Trails Killing Of Three UNIPORT Students Over Alleged Theft) they where mercilessly beaten and burnt alive by the villagers of the community for allegedly stealing Blackberry mobile phones and laptops in an off-campus hostel of their institution. There was even a video capture of the event that went viral (VERY GRUESOME STUFF! Please be warned!) … its been sent to me a couple of times, but have refused to see it 😦

Came across this picture yesterday while on facebook and laughed at how frightened it made me at first glance; I laughed even more when I read its title “Uncle Carnage wants YOU!” but today it takes on a new meaning as I consider the gruesome act of jungle justice that has taken place within my country’s shores.
Turn the Stars on his hat to Green and White stripes and wonder if Uncle Carnage hasn’t already claimed “US”
When did it become so bad 9ja?!
Dealing with the level of corruption and mayhem within your shores is bad enough …but THIS??!!
Yet I am still in love with your Green, White, Green!
