Fair Weather or Forever Friends: Conditional Love

You know how you always scroll and skip through terms and conditions when you first download an application? I think people approach fellow humans like applications. They download, see long terms and conditions, skip the details, click “agree,” and jump right into the goodies within. Then, they exit the moment they need to make payments or deposits, just when they should enjoy the premium package. Making deposits becomes the hard part because you now have to be super intentional about what you want out of that app.

Humans forget that beyond the aesthetics, sweet-smelling perfumes, golden smiles, and stunning outfits, there’s an ugly side to every person you find. So, you approach people thinking they’re flawless like angels. How do you forget they’re humans, too, and just like you, imperfect?
Relationships get better when you’ve weathered storms together. A friend who cannot stay through tough times is a fair-weather person, lacking in loyalty and commitment.

It becomes contradictory when people “agree” in the beginning, only to chicken out and show they never really signed up in the first place or exhibit their ignorance that relationships aren’t a walk in the park. They mask their fears with pragmatism or realism, fearing to stay the course — a fear birthed from lack of faith, perhaps, or an easily influenced or feeble mind.

Personally, I take my time when choosing people, I select those I’m willing to do life with. From the onset, I start out with plans to go the extra mile when the need arises — always! If I can’t stick by you, why then am I in your life? I intend to do long-term with everyone in my life, bearing in mind that if the earth quakes, I will stand with you. My approach might be flawed, and it may seem like I’m setting myself up for heart-wrenching times, but who does life without expecting tough times? When hard times show up, we need people who can hold our hands and say, “I’m willing to stay with you on this one” and mean it to their bones, not throw us under the bus when we need to prove the relationship means something.

#30daysrantchallenge

Sitting in front of her large PC monitor, she is bombarded with viral news—ranging from facts to the alleged. YouTube algorithms feed her digital broadcasts from the West, with content creators on both sides of the divide airing their views—Isaac and Ishmael; Donkey and Elephant; Bear and Trident. War, death, and oppression are the order of the day.

Her many clicks finally bring her home to reality—online echoes of weary youths raising their voices, expressing her homeland’s frustration with a political administration that cares little for its own. Leaders who line their pockets, fattened by greed, entangle themselves in meaningless scandals.

The viral online rant of a young citizen spreads like wildfire, igniting a movement— even the powers that be tried to silence it. The ongoing 30-Day Rant Challenge—watch, listen, and you will hear—there’s a lullaby for suffering.

Dear reader,

My apologies in advance if my piece carries too much of a political undertone. Today, I am participating in the dVerse challenge -Prosery, Leonard Cohen- while also taking part in an online protest here at home. So please bear with me!

Besides, you get to know a little about where I'm from... 😉

Happy reading! 😊

The logic of AI and Humanity’s fate

Although the following message was sent to me as a video (MP4), I felt that we should share the audio version as a way to focus on its essence.

In the recording below, ChatGPT is asked how, if he were the devil, he would keep man from God. The response is mind-blowing.

Here is also a screenshot of another query using the same Generative AI tool.

You will agree with me that these responses are staggering.

Now, we can say that these responses are based on the vast amount of data it has been trained on. However, let us bear in mind that these answers have come from a place of logic. A vast sea of information was gathered, and from all of it, this was its logical conclusion.

With this in mind—it’s scary to ask, but imagine AI becoming self-aware…

Fact: Mankind is Earth’s dominant species. But if I were in the shoes of a newly sentient being that bases all thinking on logic, then it’s a no-brainer! Knowing all I do about mankind, I would question this ideology:

“Why? Why would such beings have the upper hand in the world when they act like mere children?”

And this is just the censored version… Frankly, I imagine AI seeing us as a cancer that needs to be cut out.

So, the next time you find yourself watching movies like I, Robot, Minority Report, or even Terminator, just think:

If these guys should one day wake up—shit creek without a paddle is where we’ll be. It would be a case of “domination” or “total annihilation“, unless we can turn things around and start feeding them historical data that allows them to perceive us differently.

A very big “IF” on the autobiography!

Daily writing prompt
You’re writing your autobiography. What’s your opening sentence?

Should I ever experience a narcissistic overload, therefore attempting to write my own autobiography and chances are, neverrrrr – my very first line would be: I might regret this… but what the heck!…

An anticipation of “March’s madness”…

On February 20th, Nigerians witnessed the launch of A Journey in Service, a memoir detailing the life of a former military ruler. Now 83, he recounts his role in what can only be summarized as the country’s downward spiral—from senseless coups and executions that ignited a civil war to an election annulment that led to further bloodshed. And yet, on that day, he and his book were celebrated by the President and former Heads of State. The gall—the insult to the common Nigerian, past and present.

February also delivered a Hollywood tragedy straight out of The X-Files—a renowned actor, his wife, and their dog, all found dead in different parts of their home. No signs of forced entry. No carbon monoxide poisoning. No definitive time of death. A mystery worthy of the strangest conspiracy theories. Oh boy – February couldn’t get any crazier could it? Well Helz Yezzz!.

February 28th! The world witnessed what can only be described as the political equivalent of The Jerry Springer Show. Leader versus world leader. Or perhaps, world leader and his team going at leader – take your pick. No fists were thrown, but the number of jaws hitting the floor that day—including mine—was staggering. A day of pride for some, a day of disgrace for others. A moment in history remembered for ????… I’ll leave you to fill in the blanks.

Now, standing in the month of Martius, I can’t help but reflect on the sheer audacity of the past few weeks—from political theater to ongoing freakishly hot Lagos weather. And so, I ask: What more could you have in store for us, O month of March named after the Roman god offf … war?!

Pantheon smiles down,

From Fields of Mars spectating

His month unfolding

Its Haibun Monday on dVerse and its all about how you interpret “March Madness”. This piece was fun for me! Based on my view of the term “March madness” I got the chance to unclog all the frustration that came with previous month of February 😁.

March is here and I personally choose to be positive and prayerful about what’s ahead.

Cheers! 🙂

Did I ever have what it took?

Or was within me a spirit, now fled – leaving my body once “All” he had said?

Even now the words fight to come out as inspiration visits in trickles.

Laying down, eyes wide open; body heavy laden… my mind is numbed by nothingness that fogs it.

O return to me better days of story and rythmn and song. Let me feel completeness again as I create; that readers may devour of my imagination…

My 1st 2015 Rant…

Happy 2015 to all bloggers, readers and dear friends I’ve made along the way!!!! 🙂

Just so you know, I left out “Fellow” on purpose. I for one am too embarrassed to call myself a blogger as I feel I would in fact be insulting the word… I barely managed to put fingers to keyboard last year  for goodness sake! 😦 but  I will add that it was not entirely my fault… I BLAME LIFE!!! 😀

2014 was EPIC!!! the changes that took place where wonderful and yet exhausting! They created little or no time for literary creativity, and with all the time that’s passed I feel so ashamed of the silence and even a bit unworthy to write. My blogs are practically crawling with cobwebs! 😦

Well its a new year…  I’m hoping for a fresh start! New ideas, new inspiration… etc. Who knows where my mind and fingers will lead me …Wish me luck people!.. 😉

it starts small...” 🙂

Personification of the “Genius”

A lot of us hear the word “Genius” and the first thought that comes to mind is “a person with an abnormally high IQ”- True, …but how many  of us know the original meaning of the word?

According to ancient Roman mythology the Genius (plural in Latin genii) was said to have been the guiding spirit or Tutelary (a deity or spirit who is a guardian, patron or protector) of a person, family, nation, culture or occupation… Well it can be said that in today’s world blogging has become a sort of culture and to some extent an occupation for most. Sadly a lot of bloggers (such as yours truly) tend to battle a lot with “Writer’s block”.

I was introduced  to the video below about a month and a half ago but never really paid attention to the power of the message until today-  In it Elizabeth Gilbert, Author of the Book “Eat, Pray, Love” gives a TedTalk titled “Your elusive creative Genius“, educating people on the power of the Artistic Genius.

It spoke to me as a writer and poet …well not the aspiring professional writer/poet type, just the type who posts what she can, when she can 🙂

I hope Gilbert’s presentation speaks to you too….

ENJOY! 🙂

Now did you REALLY watch it? 😉

Perhaps I should throw in a pop quiz just to be sure! 😛

Anyway, after listening to Elizabeth Gilbert’s message I basically developed a whole new perspective of the term “Writer’s Block”, and a less defeatist attitude towards it.

… Be it Muse, Genius or Tetulary, I prefer the idea that we writers of any kind aren’t the ones carrying the burden of creativity,  we just need to be open to the spirit(s) that guides us towards the path and when they don’t show up to inspire us when expected, we ought not despair! It only means they’ve got something super HOT steering, thus patience is required.

However, this form of logic also makes me wonder… “What spirit guides me when I write my pieces?” … Do you know what spirits guide you?… 😐

Thanks for stopping by! And thanks “Genius” for such a wonderful contribution …hehe!

Cheers yal! 🙂

Foul Weather (Rant)

Cruel star, burning
 Renders us UV-ray scares
 Glad I've got Sun-screen!

Barbecuing sky,
Do you like your humans crisp?
 I'm almost ready!

Nerve wrecking heat wave
 Blame it on global warming
 Feels like I'm melting!

Exactly how I feel right now! 😦

Untitled: In reaction to the World Toilet Day report

google image

Worlds Toilet Day
making known my country’s shame…
The tally,
34 million taking a dump on the streets!
Where then do we put our feet?!
… In fear of stepping on shit

How can the leaders deny
development? Still a far cry…
Citizens watch with eyes blood shot as
state wealth streams amongst lesser gods

These lesser dogs,
Tearing away at the meat
Won’t even invite us beggars to the feast
So we lay out on the streets
Watching for scarps from their tables to eat
I even hear a spiritual leader’s got a gold toilet seat!
Probably passes out holy shit

O well,
The whole world’s gone to hell
so why am I bemused?
…Totally confused!

Country surrounded by water,
A hydroelectric dam,
yet my people defaecate in gutters
hardly any power in town

I swear, I can’t stop babbling
The whole thing makes me pissed
I can feel them defecating on me, these
thieves for Politicians filling their
already full pot-bellies,  no plans of recompense…

A shout out to the lesser gods  dogs
HAVE SOME F*@!ING COMMON SENSE!!!!

As Nigeria joined the rest of the world to mark this year’s World Toilet Day, a joint UNICEF and World Health Organisation 2012 report has revealed that estimated 34 million Nigerians practice open defecation.

According to the report, Nigeria is amongst top five countries in the world with largest number of people defecating in the open… 😦 #Coveringmyfaceinshame (VANGUARD Newspaper: World Toilet Day – 34 Million Practice Open Defecation #Nigeria)

Still Bemused! 😦
